That Is NOT A Word

20 Nov

My friend Doug recently wrote an excellent column on AdAge about corporatespeak. If I hear “robust” one more time in a client presentation, I’ll vomit. What I hate even more is “leverage” as a verb. I should probably get over this, but I left my last husband over a game of Trivial Pursuit, so this is just indicative of my personality. Yesterday, my boss used leverage as a verb in a meeting. He sent me a note afterwards that said,

“By the way, don’t think I didn’t notice you smirking when I used leveraged as a verb on Monday morning…”

Then he sent me a link to a site that explains it can be used as a verb. The site was probably written by someone who works in corporate marketing.
